Henry Simmons
Biography
Nurturing an impressive body of work that encompasses film and television, Henry Simmons’ career continues to evolve with exciting and challenging projects. He recently starred opposite Robin Williams in the Bobcat Goldthwait independent feature WORLD’S GREATEST DAD (which played at the Sundance Film Festival), RAVENSWOOD, a spinoff of the CW’s hit series PRETTY LITTLE LIARS, and opposite Idris Elba and Taraji P. Henson in NO GOOD DEED.
On TV Henry starred opposite Dan Fogler, Teri Polo, and Mather Zickel in MAN UP!, the CBS legal drama SHARK created by Oscar-winning producer Brian Grazer and ABC’s long-running critically-acclaimed NYPD BLUE. As Detective Baldwin Jones, Simmons was supposed to appear in only a few episodes, but executive producer Steven Bochco was so impressed with his work that he made him a series regular. Other television credits include starring roles in the mini-series SPARTACUS, and the critically-acclaimed HBO TV movie LACKAWANNA BLUES, and guest-starring roles in PEPPER DENNIS, NEW YORK UNDERCOVER, SWIFT JUSTICE, and THE COSBY MYSTERIES. He also starred in the film SOUTH OF PICO, which was awarded the grand jury prize for Best Picture at the 2007 American Black Film Festival. Simmons won the festival’s Actor Award for his role. Additional feature film credits include Tyler Perry’s MADEA’S FAMILY REUNION, SOMETHING NEW, TAXI, ARE WE THERE YET?, THE INSURGENTS, and ABOVE THE RIM.
Simmons also enjoys theater and his credits include Off Broadway productions such as BOYS IN THE BASEMENT, and GERANOS and a Los Angeles-based production SURE.
